It’s hard to believe that it is April 2025! We started our Creative Wayfinders Substack a few months ago, in 2024. Then, life got in the way, and unfortunately, this was one of the things that had to give up. As much as we wanted to share what we were thinking and what we were doing, there was a lot of noise and distraction, so we decided to put a pause in our writing.
But now, I am back, we are back, and excited to re-introduce ourselves. This is a community of parents of Neurodiverse children and family members, people who are Neurodiverse themselves, people who are interested in what this community means and the people that help us. I am also a very happy wife, mom, mother-in-law, grandma, daughter, sister, friend, and hope I can be a source of interest and information and friendship with those roles as well, for all of you.
With that in mind, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a wife, the mother of four, mother-in-law to three more, and grandmother to three grandchildren. I’m a very retired lawyer, and have worn many other hats, including having a small baking business and now being an author. My youngest son and I wrote, “Robby the Dyslexic Taxi, and the Airport Adventure!” This children’s book has had such an amazing reception that we are now writing a series called the Creative Cab Company, where all of the cars and taxis and trucks will have other Neurodiverse issues. Jon and I feel that this community doesn’t see itself enough in children’s books, and as Jon is an adult, who is a remediated dyslexic, he felt this was an audience that needed to be noticed and cheered!
In the coming months, I plan to talk about all of these things by myself, with family members, with friends and with professionals. Jon will be chiming in too, but he is, on top of co-authoring and illustrating our next book, working towards getting his MFA so a lot of of his thought thoughts can be seen in his wonderful artwork. We hope you like what you read and view and if you do, please tell others so our community grows, and we find common ground together.
Here’s a fun fact about me. I love to bake and I had a cookie business for a few years. My all-time favorite, and I think the biggest sellers were my chocolate chips; Old-fashioned chocolate chips (no sea salt!). My kids came home to fresh cookies every day. I think it’s something they still remember fondly!
We plan to update our Substack regularly so we’ll talk more soon. Until then, you can check out our first book, Robby the Dyslexic Taxi and the Airport Adventure, on Amazon.
